Happy National Doughnut Day

Eat up!

What a terrible holiday for people watching their weight.
Full apron by Boojiboo
I'm a pretty big fan of this apron. It's a little more girly than my usual fancies, but I think the fact that it has doughnuts and coffee on it makes it worth being a little frou-frou.
Felt play food doughnuts by RoyalRugrats
Ok I admit, I would love to have these. I don't think I would EVER use them...but I don't even care. I can see my little sister playing with them in her pretend kitchen. Unfortunately, these don't taste very good.
Doughnut Journal by Edessedesigns
I have entirely too many notepads, journals, etc., but I can't stop buying them. I would love to add this to my collection. It's bright, cheery, and makes me want to put down the pencil and stuff my face.
Doughnut ring by ericaschmerica
I always buy rings and then wear them for a couple of weeks before they make their way to my black hole of a jewelry box. I'm sure the same would happen with this one, but I think it's worth it. Heck, I could even wear it next year for National Doughnut Day. (yes, I said "heck"...I'm from Tennessee)
Doughnut soap by especially4ubyEandT
I don't know how I feel about using a doughnut to wash the dirt off. Usually it's after I've had a doughnut that I reach for the soap to avoid being a sticky mess. Nevertheless, who said soap has to be a boring rectangle? At least if we had a famine, I could eat the soap and just will myself into believe it tastes like a big juicy doughtnut.

What's National Doughnut Day without a little shameless self-promotion? I know it's tacky, but this is one of my favorite photos...and it's appropriate for such a special holiday. Hungry Policemen by kristimcmurry

There's plenty more where that came from!

Rue McClanahan

America has lost a great woman today.

I watched The Golden Girls often as a kid, though I didn't really understand as much back then. Recently I've been watching it with my roommate, and I fell in love with Dorothy, Rose, Blanche, and Sophia all over again! I was sad to hear the news of Rue McClanahan's (Blanche) death today.  I know she'll be honored in lots of ways, but for now here are some photos of Rue and The Golden Girls. She was a very beautiful woman, especially in her younger years.

Here's a little information about her from Wikipedia:

She began acting on Off-Broadway in New York City in 1957, but did not make her Broadway debut until 1969 when she portrayed Sally Weber in the original production of John Sebastian and Murray Schisgal's musical, Jimmy Shine, with Dustin Hoffman in the title role.
Her role as Caroline Johnson on Another World (from July 1970 - September 1971) brought her notoriety. On the show, while taking care of twins Michael and Marianne Randolph, Caroline fell in love with their father, John, and began poisoning their mother, Pat. The short-term role was extended to more than a year before Caroline was finally brought to justice after kidnapping the twins. Once her role on Another World ended, Rue joined the cast of the CBS soap Where the Heart Is, in which she played Margaret Jardin.

In The Golden Girls, broadcast from 1985 until 1992 and in The Golden Palace for one year afterwards, McClanahan portrayed man-crazed Southern belle Blanche Devereaux. She received an Emmy Award in 1987 for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her work on the show.

An animal welfare advocate and vegetarian, McClanahan was one of the first celebrity supporters of PETA.

In 2003 she appeared in the musical romantic comedy film The Fighting Temptations as Nancy Stringer. She replaced Carole Shelley as Madame Morrible in the musical Wicked on May 31, 2005. She played the role for eight months and departed the cast on January 8, 2006.

Her autobiography, My First Five Husbands, was released nationwide in 2007.
In June 2008, The Golden Girls was awarded the 'Pop Culture' award at the Sixth Annual TV Land Awards.

McClanahan's last acting role was in the cable series Sordid Lives on the Logo network, which premiered July 23, 2008, playing Peggy Ingram.

We'll miss you Rue!

How LOST makes me feel

It seems that everyone I know is absolutely obsessed with LOST. (why do they capitalize that? One of the many mysteries) I never really caught on, so I've always felt pretty left out.

Etsy has some great items that I can relate to. These things describe how I've felt during the whole LOST craze.

Heather & Jesse

During my sophomore year of college, I was given a wonderful opportunity that would provide me some very valuable experience in the career field that I was/am interested in. My photography professor hooked me up with this awesome girl named Heather. She had graduated from Union with a graphic design emphasis, but over the course of a few years had turned her attention to photography. At this point she was shooting weddings and portraits in Jackson. We met up and I knew it was going to work out. We got along great right off the bat, and I started interning with her. She took me to several weddings with her and now, I'm a sort of contracted wedding photographer with the company that she started, Cedarway. I've gotten great experience and a great friend out of the whole situation.

All that to say, I got to turn the camera around on Heather! She got married 7 (?) years ago, but she didn't have a whole lot of photos of her and her husband together. So she had me take photos of them with her in her wedding dress! I've never gotten to do this type of shoot before, but it was VERY fun! The sun was super bright, so it was challenging. I'm happy with the pictures and I had a great time out at Pinson Mounds with them. Hooray!
