Vince & Heather's Outdoor Engagement Session

Before I talk about Vince and Heather's adorable engagement shoot, let me direct your attention to that HOT NEW URL/LOGO on my photos. I finally changed my business name and rebranded! I decided to change from Kristi McMurry Photography for a few reasons...mainly because, duh, I got married forever ago! Another reason is because there are several other photographers in my town with a name like Kristi/Kristen/Kristina, and they're all awesome. I felt that I needed to set myself apart, and a name change was a good way to do that. Woody is my new last name and Pearl is my grandmother's middle name, which I love. I guess that's the short story! I am so excited about it, and I am also using the same branding for my new vintage rental business. I'll post more about that later, but for now you can check out the FB page.

Ok, so on to Vince and Heather! These two are so.dang.sweet. I met with Heather and her mom at the beginning of the year, and we instantly hit it off. I could tell from the start that I would enjoy working with them, and so far I definitely have! We met at this lovely house in downtown Jackson and shot their photos around the outside. Heather's bright shirt really helped brighten up the photos since we were shooting in the dead of winter. Good choice, Heather!

Vince and Heather were both totally natural in front of the camera, which made my job easy!  I loved how sweet they were together. I also had a pretty stellar assistant with me that day, Travis Wyatt. I am so pumped for Travis and I to shoot their big day in May! I'm also really excited to be able to share Heather's bridal portraits after the wedding. We shot them last week and I LOVE THEM. It's killing me not to share them, but I think I can make it. ha!

Rusty + Susan's Winter Wedding at City Fellowship

Rusty and Susan are one of the cutest couples I have ever had the privilege of photographing. They joke with each other, and are so clearly head over heels for each other that it makes everyone around them giddy. Their wedding was just a few days into 2014, and it was a lovely gathering of their friends and family. We started out with Susan getting ready, and when the guys arrived, we did their first look on the stairs. It was the sweetest! I love doing first look photos. Suzy was so adorable and giddy before coming down those stairs.

Their wedding took place in their church downtown, and the reception was in the adjoining space. The reception space used to be a furniture store and had huge windows all along the front. It was perfect for a winter wedding because we could do ALL the photos inside! I'm sure Suzy's bare arms were thankful I didn't take them outside for portraits :)

Wedding cake by the illustrious Beth Wilson. If you're looking for a cake for ANYTHING, she's your girl.  I'm not sure who designed the programs, but they were CUTE!

This wedding was such a joy to photograph. They have such an amazing group of friends, and they were not afraid to have a good time! I loved capturing the dancing and the smiles.

For the Love of Pie - Learning How to Bake

So my friend Lisa, master chef and pie baker extraordinaire, has started hosting pie classes. She lets a small group of people come in and learn how to make her popular caramel apple pie. Now tell me that's not the most awesome thing ever! I hired Lisa to make the jar pies I had at my wedding and they were a huge hit. Now that Lisa has shared her knowledge with me, I'll definitely be trying this myself eventually. The one I made in class turned out awesome! I never realized how every little thing affects the way the crust turns out...and it's all about the crust.

UPDATE: Totally just realized today is Pi Day...I HAVE PERFECT TIMING. (Let's pretend I did it on purpose)

I know it's not the prettiest. I didn't do the best job rolling out my dough, but it still tasted darn good! This is half of a 9" pie recipe. She paired us up so we could split the recipe into these smaller serving pies. Honestly I LOVE that size. It's not so big that I feel guilty :) And I can go ahead and make two anyway and just freeze the other one for a few weeks later.

I guess the moment of truth will come when I try to make this by myself.

P.S. Lisa also makes some killer indigo dyed scarves over at Garner Blue. You should totally check them out!

Walter + Judy's Sweet Winter Wedding

Thankfully winter is finally on its way out, but before it left, I got to shoot a lovely wedding! Judy was actually my high school Algebra 2, Trig and Calculus teacher. It was an absolute honor to capture her day. There were so many people there to see her and Walter tie the knot, even several of her students! It was just a real testament to how loved they are. I am always really happy for my couples, but I may have been just a teensy bit more giddy about these two :)

Lancaster Fall Family Photos

In the fall, my coworker Scott asked me to take some family photos for him out at their lovely home in the woods. They have a great space with tons of trees and a really awesome tree house! I mostly photographed their adorable kids, but I got a few full family shots in. I love the way these turned out, even though most of the leaves had fallen by the time we shot them. The yellow leaves in that first photo are my absolute favorite!

Is Amelia gorgeous or what?! I'm going to have to get her to model for me soon.

Fall is definitely my favorite season, and I really miss it when winter just seems to drag on and on! I hope you all have been staying warm in this little cold snap. I've been stuck in the house for 3 days now, and I'm going a little nuts. I am planning on trying to get out in a bit...that is if I can make it out of my icy neighborhood.
