Heartbroken

I'm so upset right now. It's not THAT big of a deal, but I'm still sad.
I run a charity shop called Shepherd's Haven that makes mostly ceramic wares (platters, cups, pendants, etc...) All the items are made at a day center by adults with special needs, and the money goes straight the them. Anyway, Someone ordered a mug and sent me a message today that it was broken :(

I'm sure I just didn't pack it well enough, so that's why I'm so sad. The initial shipping was way more than I charged the customer, so we were already losing money on the item and now we're losing even more. This is just not what I needed right now. *sigh*

Here's the mug that broke
I guess I'll list some of the new stuff that they have made so maybe I can sell some tonight to make up for it. That would definitely make me feel better.

Antique Magic

Yesterday was a day that I had basically to myself. After work I decided to go to an antique store close to my house, and boy was it fun! I've been there before, but each time is totally different. Here are the things I snagged this time around.

This is a vintage Polaroid land camera model j66. It's worth about $40 in the condition I got it in, and I got it for $12 :) Of course I won't be selling it, but it's nice to know I got a deal! Polaroid produced around 1 million of these between 1961 and 1963. I'm going to do some research and see about shooting with it.
I also found this sweet little heart necklace. It appears to be handmade, but I'm not sure.
Last, but not least, I picked up this petite glass jar. Recently I went to a Ke$ha concert, and I took home some of the "glitter" that she threw into the crowd. I finally have somewhere to keep it! That was definitely one of the most energetic concerts I've been to, although the crowd of people were not the most fun to be around.

Weekend: Spontaneous mini-vaca

To start off the weekend, I went to see my sister (sometimes I think she's my clone). We enjoy silliness.

And then...

Me and Rhett went to Atlanta! Aramark does the food at the university where I work and Saturday was their client appreciation day sooooo we got free tickets! It was quite a drive (6 hours), but it was worth it to get away for a bit. Sorry about the excess of pictures. I have a bad memory so I'm hoping that years from now I can look back and actually remember my experiences from the pictures!
Highlight of the game. Chipper killed the ball...and everyone was happy. When the Braves took the field after this inning, they let Chipper run out by himself and everyone cheered like crazy. It was pretty cool. Also, I'm really glad I got to see Chipper play in his last season!
There were lots of braids in Atlanta...I definitely felt like I fit in.
It was hoooootttt...but our seats were in the shade :) Lucky us.
My Braves fan...he actually cooperated for this picture.

The next day we went to Ikea!!! I've always loved Ikea, and even though I'm more into handmade and vintage things now, I still really wanted to go.
It was OVERWHELMINGLY LARGE. We were guided through a maze of rooms and oodles of home furnishings. I. was. in. awe.
I feel like this would look great over my dining room table....yeah I know it would.
Rhett tried out the office. His office chair hurts his back so he was drooling over the comfy ones.
My new Ikea jars in my kitchen!

It was a good weekend.

Dress from DearGoldenVintage

I want to live in this dress. I want to sleep in this dress. I want to be buried in this dress. Basically, I love it. It fits great and it is sooooo incredibly comfortable. I did get asked if I was going out after work by a couple of people (I guess lbd at work is weird or something)...but I also got lots of compliments.

You can find lots of lovely vintage goodies from the same seller on Etsy: Dear GoldenVintage
I've been lusting after lots of items in her shop for a while, but when I saw this dress I could not control myself...I had to buy it.

Sorry about the smug look in the first one. I don't know what to do with my face in pictures.

Ok how adorable is that bow? I had to keep straight pins in it to keep it from flopping, so every now and then I would stick myself when I leaned over. It was totally worth it though.
I wore an old necklace that I have from high school since I had an empty neck to work with. I love that necklace, but I've always wondered if that design has any meaning.
Those shoes have been my loyal companions for...4 years?...I think. I won't tell you where I got them or how much, but let's just say they've held up pretty darn good for the price!

I'm embarrassed that my toes are un-manicured, especially since my boyfriends mother AND grandmother do nails for a living. Maybe I'll get around to a pedi soon...

Lex-vegas wedding

This is really why I love shooting weddings. No matter what wedding it is, there are always moments that stick with you forever (like the chaos that ensues when the bride decides to go to the bathroom AFTER putting the dress on.) Every wedding has a different set of personalities, and each one brings fun, new experiences to the table. (Special thanks to Anna for letting me be a creeper and take a picture over the stall)
Congrats to Brian and Anna! They were a cute couple to work with. <3

Grain Love

If you had asked me 2 months ago what I thought of grainy photographs, I would have said that they were failures. But recently I've been coming around to the idea. The grain (or noise...since it's digital) really sets the mood of the pictures.

These photos were taken by my good friend, and awesome photographer, Beth Spain. It was a concert in Union's very own coffee house, Barefoots Joe, featuring Tyler James, Andy Davis, KS Rhoads, Madi Diaz.

The Coopers

There's not much in this world that's greater than love. I know that's totally cheesy, but don't even pretend that you disagree. I filled in for the campus photographer on Wednesday and photographed the Cooper family on a tour of the Bowld Commons. They have given generously to the University, and have an office named in their honor inside the building.

Anyway, I'm not sure their age, but they've been married for over 60 years. 60 YEARS!  They were the sweetest couple I've ever seen! It was reassuring to me, a person that is anticipating marriage in the near future, to see a couple that has been married that long and is still just as in love as they were the day they said "I do."

Kanpai

Recent trip to a lovely little Japanese sushi place in South Jackson (a little out of place, if you ask me).

If you live in the area, I highly recommend this place. It's not infested with hipsters like other places *ahem..Sakura* in Jackson. AND the wait staff is incredibly nice and adorable.

Special thanks to Gabrielle for bringing me here :)
I like simple rolls, so I ordered the Alaskan Roll. It's got salmon (I think), avocado, and uh...something else. I can't remember. I just love avocado.
I love Hot and Sour soup! This is one of my favorites I've tried so far. I like it hot!
Lovely! The chefs didn't want their picture taken, so they were trying to inch away. Silly boys. Hey, Gabrielle, let's go back there!

Zoey

I count myself lucky that I found a job in Jackson and can still see this little girl every week. I don't know what I would do without my little sis!
Dirty and messy after school...just like her sister. We are also the only two people in our family that are left handed.

The poll: What have you been wearing this summer?
The results: A tie between florals and loose flowing frocks

And here are some killer items that fit into those categories (click the shop name to see the item on Etsy.) Look for a new poll soon!

Jonathan & Holly

HOTTT June wedding. I actually went to elementary school with Holly, so it was really cool shooting her wedding. The wedding was at a gorgeous church downtown and the reception was a couple of blocks over at a lovely venue. The most interesting part of the wedding was when the fire alarm kept going off at the reception. Everyone was fine until we found out the AC had caught fire, thus making the venue BLAZING hot. The reception was over soon after :) All was good though...I'm sure the bride and groom were ready to have some alone time.

P.S. This is the first wedding I shot with the new camera. How did I do?

Wednesday afternoon...

A little afternoon tea to pick me up.
Planning out the navigation for a new website has worn me out today. Am I a pansy or what?
That's a skirt...and please excuse the belly pooch. That's what happens after a fattening Quiznos lunch. Oh and that jacket is from SJP's Bitten line. I got it from my teeny tiny friend. It's too small but I didn't care...I just wanted to wear something with Sarah Jessica Parker's name on it.
Favorite shoes. Surprisingly they are quite comfortable.

Happy Wednesday.

Recent Weddings

Daniel&Kelly
This couple is really cute. I don't know them personally, but we have a LOT of mutual friends. Both of them graduated with me from Union the day after the wedding. Their wedding was in Collierville, TN on a farm. It was very cute and the heat subsided a little just for their wedding.

The centerpieces (1st picture) were RAD! One of the bridesmaids and her mother grew the grass and everything. I was drooling over them like crazy. The lady with the hat was, by far, my favorite guest. I wish I could pull off a killer hat like that. I think they underestimated their guest list. There were a TON of people there. I am sure they felt very loved...which is always nice on a wedding day. And then they walked off into the sunset, like any good couple would do.

David&Olivia
Heather's (my boss) family is friends with Olivia, so Heather asked me to come along as second photographer for this wedding. My job is to capture the details and things that the main photographer would miss while doing all the traditional posed shots. I really enjoyed this wedding, although the mosquitoes (after the rain) drove me INSANE. Olivia is seriously one of the cutest brides ever. She's super bubbly...even through the rain that basically flooded where she was having the ceremony.

She was super cute while waiting for her future husband to come down the path to meet her. This was before the wedding so we could get photos of them together BEFORE the wedding. Oh and her hair was pretty amazing. I don't know what style it is, but it's a good style for her. She also rocked some pretty stellar jewelry. After bride/groom photos the two of them took off toward some shelter...and she wore blue cowboy boots. Did I mention how awesome they were?
